There are more than 400 different therapeutic approaches, and new methods are constantly being developed. Needless to say, it can be tricky to make your choice! So how do you pick the right therapy? Well, there’s only one valid answer: the right therapy is the one that suits you! To pick one, always trust yourself and go towards what makes sense for you. No one else knows what you need as clearly as you do!

Here are a few points of reference to help you in your decision

Short-term, long-term, medium-term therapy… Analytic therapy, cognitive and behavioural therapy (CBT), humanistic therapy, systemic therapy, or even mind-body approaches…

Picking a therapy involves choosing a specific therapeutic approach and with it, a process duration.

Contrary to common beliefs, a therapy does not have to be long to be meaningful and effective! It must be adapted to your expectations and the “problems” you want to solve. Choosing a therapy that does not suit your personality or needs could cause the overall to stall for a long time. On the other hand, by making the right decision, results can be achieved in only two or three sessions!

You should feel what is right for you. And you can always make a change along the way if you feel you are not on the right path.

The power of new approaches

Alongside major traditional therapeutic approaches, approaches such as energetics, hypnotherapy and EMDR therapy can bring surprisingly fast results.

  • Energetics therapy seeks to express “ills” more through the body than through words.
  • Hypnotherapy is founded on the belief that behavioural changes can be induced by autosuggestion.
  • EMDR, for “Eyes Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing”, is one of the so-called integrative therapies that rely on the prowess of neuroplasticity. Its founding principle is to allow the brain to create new response systems in the face of traumatic situations, through simple eye movements.

These integrative approaches are very promising. They incorporate the latest scientific advances while building on older therapeutic models. And some approaches complement each other wonderfully: for instance, complementing a “traditional” therapeutic approach with an energetics approach to work on multiple levels.
